Every time I drive past Mammoth Airport, I tell myself that one day, I will stop at the Landmark Church on the eastern side of HWY 395 near Mammoth / Yosemite Airport. It is known to the locals as the Green Church near Benton Crossing road.
Finally in October 2018, on my way to Bridgeport for fall photography, I took a quick break and stopped at this location. The entrance to the church was closed when I went there so I was unable to access the interior. Also, I didn’t want to trespass into the property.
I took some pictures from the outside before making my way towards Bridgeport. It was nice even though it was just for a few minutes and a much-needed break for me from the long drive.
I did not find much information about this place other than it belongs to Sierra Nevada Aquatic Lab since 1987. There was some discussion about moving the structure to another place when the Mammoth Airport expansion was under consideration, but that eventually got scrapped. So as of October 2018, the Green Church is still in its place.
